Alexander McDow, Founder of NineTen Architects

 

Alexander McDow founded NineTen Architects, after a successful career with some of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary firms. Over the years, Alexander has designed and delivered high-profile, award-winning projects across the residential, education, commercial, and healthcare sectors. Through extensive practice and collaboration, Alexander has built up a wealth of experience.

In April 2025, Alexander joined Rural Solutions as a Director in the Architecture team where he works with owners of rural land and property to create inspiring places and spaces in the countryside.

Alexander graduated with a first class degree from the Oxford School of Architecture, where his focus was particularly on regeneration and sustainable design. He was awarded the RIBA South prize as an outstanding graduate for his Part II thesis project as well as the Sustainable Building: Performance and Design award. Prior to completing his studies in Architecture, Alexander completed his Masters Degree in Architectural Engineering at the University of Leeds with a focus on integrated building design.

Alexander had several years’ experience working for AJ100 leading practices before establishing Nine Ten Architects. He completed his studies whilst working at the award-winning architectural practice Hawkins\Brown where he gained a breadth of experience working on a wide range of projects. Prior to that, Alexander worked for another award-winning architectural practice, CZWG Architects, where he gained invaluable experience designing and delivering significant residential developments in and around the city of London.

Alexander has a passion for sustainable design and conservation as well as championing the use of low carbon construction technologies such as engineered timber and off site manufacturing. Today he works in the rural sector providing design expertise to clients looking to develop land and property in locations across the country.
