S.P.A.B. Working party 2023

Mixing lime mortar outside the 14th century Hospitium

Repointing low-level stonework of the 14th century Hospitium

Learning from the experts conservationists.

This year we attended the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (S.P.A.B.) working party at Boxley Abbey in Maidstone, a 4 day hands on repair of old buildings course.

S.P.A.B. believe that the best way to learn traditional building skills is through hands-on experience. The working parties provide a great opportunity for us to enhance our skills and learn from some of the country's leading craftspeople. Working with experts, we repaired a rainge of historic walls, learnt how to mix mortar and witnessed a lime burn at the on site field kiln.

The S.P.A.B Working Party provided a great opportunity for us to enhance our conservation and historic building knowledge, enhancing our skillet for use on future projects.
